Run the Jewels are back. In just over a year, they have released two of the best hip-hop albums in recent memory. On RTJ2, they recapture the overflowing energy and fun of their first album on the A side, and take a serious turn on side B with some of the best rap songs of the year. Mike and EL-P rap about everything from prison riots to police brutality to the pains of being a drug dealer. RTJ2 also features some of the best features of the year. Travis Barker provides an excellent beat on All Due Respect. Zach de la Rocha shows up on Close Your Eyes and delivers the best verse of his career, with clever references to Miles Davis and Phillip K Dick, and Gangsta Boo completely turns the song Love Again on its head.
